Trump on TikTok ban: 'I can't do anything...', sparks debate during US-China trade talks

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Trade agreement talks have started between the US and China in Madrid, Spain. These discussions are being led by US Finance Minister Scott Bessant and Trade Representative Jameson Greer while Deputy Prime Minister Lifeng is representing China.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has made an important remark regarding TikTok. The deadline for the Chinese social media platform in America is ending soon. Earlier, TikTok was given time till January 2025 but later it was extended to 17 September.
Speaking to journalists in New Jersey, Trump said that nothing can be said yet about whether TikTok will shut down or its deadline will be extended. He added that the future of TikTok in America depends entirely on China. However, he also admitted that children like TikTok a lot. It is worth noting that in August, Trump had said American companies are ready to buy TikTok. He had also expressed his intention to save the platform but as per rules any US company will need government approval to buy it. This process, according to Trump is moving very slowly.
