Trump releases cyber policy: focus on tackling digital threats and strengthening global partnerships

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): The White House has released a new cyber strategy for the United States, outlining a comprehensive plan to strengthen cybersecurity, counter digital threats from rivals, and deepen cooperation with global partners.
The new strategy states that the United States will work closely with allied nations, industry leaders and government agencies to protect digital networks and maintain its technological leadership. The goal is to ensure that the US remains unmatched in cyberspace. The plan also calls for unprecedented coordination between the government and private sector to protect networks and critical infrastructure.
US President Donald Trump said that over the past year the United States has demonstrated that it possesses the most powerful and technologically advanced military in the world. He added that the country will continue working with allies and industry partners to shape global cyber norms and strengthen digital resilience.
The policy framework comes at a time when cybercrime, espionage and digital sabotage are rising across the world. Governments and businesses are increasingly facing cyberattacks targeting essential services. Criminal groups and hostile organisations are now focusing on government networks, companies and critical services such as electricity and water supply.
Trump stated that American cyber tools and operators are among the best in the world and will be empowered to defend the nation by disrupting adversaries and denying them safe digital spaces.
The strategy warns that cybercriminals and hostile actors are targeting healthcare systems, financial networks, food supply chains and water utilities. Such attacks could disrupt services and cause significant economic losses. The document outlines six major policy pillars to guide US cyber policy. These include controlling the behaviour of adversaries, promoting smart regulation, modernising federal networks, protecting critical infrastructure, maintaining technological superiority and building a strong cyber workforce.
The strategy also emphasises modernising federal systems and deploying advanced cybersecurity tools. These include post-quantum cryptography, zero-trust architecture and AI-based security technologies. Another key priority is protecting critical infrastructure such as energy grids, financial systems, telecommunications networks, hospitals and water utilities. Officials also highlighted the need to secure digital supply chains.
The policy stresses innovation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and secure digital infrastructure. According to officials, these technologies will play an important role in protecting networks and sustaining American technological leadership.
The document also warns against foreign technologies that enable censorship, surveillance and manipulation of information. US officials say that digital platforms and infrastructure should reflect democratic values and protect freedom of expression.
Cybersecurity has now become a central national security priority for Washington as governments and companies face increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. The strategy emphasises that the United States will take swift, deliberate and proactive actions to neutralise cyber threats.
