New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, US embassies in several countries have issued urgent security alerts for American citizens, advising them to remain vigilant. The alerts cover Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Iraq, Israel, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Turkey with officials warning that the security situation could deteriorate suddenly. Americans in the region have also been advised to remain aware of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.

Iran has reportedly raised its highest security alert level, known as “Code 100” for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, army and security forces in response to potential threats. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump returned to the White House on Saturday night following a visit to Camp David, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortened his US trip and returned to Israel amid the heightened tensions.

The US Embassy and Consulate in Iraq said the situation across the region remains complicated and could change rapidly. American citizens travelling to or from the Middle East have been advised to closely monitor airport and airline operations. The advisory also warned that US diplomatic facilities and other American interests could face threats including locations associated with US citizens and companies outside the Middle East.
