Washington (The Uttam Hindu): After the US Supreme Court blocked his tariff measures and declared them illegal, US President Donald Trump strongly criticised the ruling, calling it shameful and deeply disappointing. Speaking at a press conference, he said he had not expected such a decision and accused certain groups of exploiting the United States, warning that they would not remain satisfied for long. He also indicated that additional tariffs could be imposed.

Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, saying some members of the judiciary lacked the courage to act in what he described as the country’s best interest. He said the dissenting opinions supported his position and argued that the tariff issue was closely linked to economic and national security.

He also claimed that the court had been influenced by foreign interests and political pressure, alleging that a small but vocal group had affected the outcome. Trump reiterated that he had secured a decisive electoral victory and said his opponents were overstating their influence.

Calling the tariff dispute highly significant, he said the ruling would not stop his administration from pursuing alternative measures. He suggested that stronger trade actions could be taken, including higher tariffs or restrictions on trade with certain countries, and mentioned the possibility of an additional 10 percent global tariff.

The Supreme Court of the United States struck down the tariff measures, ruling that Trump did not have the authority under a 1977 emergency law to impose wide-ranging import duties on major US trading partners, including India. Trump said tougher tariff steps could follow despite the ruling.
