New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The ongoing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia is becoming increasingly serious. While US President Donald Trump recently claimed that a single phone call could end the conflict, the current situation shows intensified military action along the border instead of any de-escalation.

On Saturday, the Thai Air Force carried out air strikes in areas close to the Cambodia border. According to available information, the Thai Air Force used two F-16 fighter jets to target multiple locations and carried out heavy bombing. Media reports said that at around 5:50 am local time, a hotel building in the Thmor Da area of Battambang province in western Cambodia was hit by a bomb. Minutes later, at around 5:55 am, another hotel building in the same area was also targeted.

The attacks then expanded to key strategic infrastructure. Reports indicate that at 6:02 am, the Chhey Chomnas Bridge was bombed, followed by another strike on the same bridge at 6:07 am. At around 6:12 am, the old Chhey Chomnas Bridge was also targeted in the air strikes.

It is noteworthy that amid rising border tensions, President Donald Trump had recently stated that he could stop the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia and restore peace in the region. However, the ground situation suggests that tensions between the two countries are deepening rather than easing.
