New York (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has described the victory speech of New York City's newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani as "very aggressive". Trump said that if Mamdani does not behave respectfully with Washington, then his chances of success are very less. In an interview to a news channel, Trump said, "Yes, I thought that speech was very angry, especially against me. I think he should show a little more respect towards me, because I am the person who signs many approvals related to his city. He is starting his term on the wrong foot."

“If Mamdani doesn't respect me…” Trump makes a major statement about New York's new mayor: In his fiery speech, Mamdani directly challenged Trump and called for an end to "political dynasty". Taking aim at Trump's harsh immigration policies, he said that New York is a city of immigrants and now immigrants will lead it. Amidst thunderous applause, Mamdani said, "If any city can teach a country deceived by Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave birth to Trump. And if you want to stop a dictator, break the very ladder to his power."

He added, "This isn't just about stopping Trump, but about preventing another Trump from emerging in the future. So Donald Trump, because I know you're watching, just four words for you — turn the volume up." In his speech, Mamdani promised to support unions and strengthen workers' rights. He said, "New York will always be a city of immigrants. Immigrants built it, they run it, and from today on, immigrants will lead it. So, President Trump, listen up — to reach any of us, you're going to have to face all of us."

Trump called Mamdani's comments "dangerous," saying, "He needs to show some respect for Washington, or there's no chance of success. This is a risky approach for him." Trump also said that while he doesn't want Mamdani to succeed, he does want the city to progress. He said, "I want New York to thrive. Let's see what happens."

When Trump was asked if he would contact Mamdani, he replied, "He should contact us. I'm right here. We'll see what happens, but I think the initiative should come from him." Trump said he was "heartbroken" because he loves New York very much and wants to see the new mayor succeed. Calling Mamdani a "communist," Trump quipped, "Communism has never worked for thousands of years, and I doubt it will work this time either."
