Moscow/Kiev (The Uttam Hindu) : Ukraine carried out one of the largest drone strikes on Russia on Sunday night. The deadly attack targeted Russia's vital Tuapse port on the Black Sea, causing significant damage.

According to reports, the attack was so powerful that a massive fire broke out in part of the port, engulfing a Russian oil terminal. Meanwhile, Russia's air defense unit claimed to have destroyed 164 Ukrainian drones mid-air in retaliation.

The administration of Russia's Krasnodar region confirmed on Telegram that it was responding to a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack in Tuapse. According to the administration, falling drone debris caused damage to the port's infrastructure and a fire.

The port is strategically important as it houses the Tuapse oil terminal and the Rosneft-controlled Tuapse oil refinery. Both sites have been targeted by Ukrainian drones several times this year. However, it was not immediately clear what extent of damage was caused to the port's infrastructure.

The attack is believed to be part of Ukraine's intensified campaign to disrupt military logistics. Kyiv (Ukraine) has stepped up attacks on Russian refineries, depots, and pipelines in retaliation for attacks on the Russian power grid. These attacks are primarily aimed at putting pressure on Russia's fuel supplies and increasing its wartime spending.

The Krasnodar administration said there were no reports of casualties in the attack. It also said that drone debris damaged an apartment building in the village of Sosnovy, outside Tuapse, but no injuries were reported there either.
