Kyiv (The Uttam Hindu) : Hopes for peace have once again emerged in the nearly four-year-long Russia-Ukraine war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that several important decisions could be made before the new year, and a high-level meeting with US President Donald Trump has been scheduled in the "near future."

Zelensky stated on social media that he was wasting no time accelerating diplomatic efforts and that a meeting with Trump had been agreed upon. He indicated that final decisions on sensitive issues such as territory should be made at the presidential level.

20-point peace framework, documents 'almost ready'

Talks between Kyiv and Washington have intensified in recent days. Reports indicate that Zelenskyy stated that a 20-point peace proposal/framework has been developed and that several documents related to peace and reconstruction in Ukraine are almost ready. These talks also included discussions with Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Differences Remain Large, Russia in No Moment to Relent

While signs are positive, differences remain—particularly on issues like territorial control and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant. Russia, meanwhile, has officially stated that the proposals/documents are under review, but is not commenting on the substance at this time.
