Washington (The Uttam Hindu): The United States has carried out major airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIS) bases in Nigeria, targeting militant hideouts in the country’s north-western region. Videos of the air operation have also been released by US authorities. The action was confirmed by US President Donald Trump, who shared details of the strike through social media.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the airstrikes were conducted in response to the killing of Christians by ISIS terrorists. He stated that, as Commander-in-Chief, he had directed the US military to launch precise and powerful attacks against ISIS factions operating in north-western Nigeria. According to Trump, these groups had been repeatedly involved in violent attacks against innocent Christian civilians.

The US President said terrorists had earlier been warned to stop atrocities against Christians or face serious consequences. “That warning has now turned into action,” he said. Trump added that the US Department of Defense carried out multiple targeted strikes, making it clear that his administration would not allow extremist terrorism to grow.

Trump also extended Christmas greetings and expressed support for the US armed forces. He warned that if terrorist activities continue, even stronger action will follow.

Meanwhile, footage of the airstrikes was shared on social media platform X by the Department of War. Officials said the operation continued throughout the night and described it as an example of “peace through strength.” Reports suggest this is one of the largest US military actions in Nigeria to date. The operation reportedly began just days after a suspected ISIS attack on a convoy of US and Syrian forces near Palmyra in central Syria.
