US lawmakers warn: Trump’s policies endanger 25-year-old India–US ties

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Former US President Donald Trump's new tariff policies and diplomatic decisions have put the 25-year-old strong India-US relationship in danger. Expressing concern over this, Democrat MP Ro Khanna organized an emergency conference call in which many former diplomats and industrialists participated.
Trump's policies put 25-year-old relationship with India at risk, US lawmakers warn : This call was called by Congressional India Caucus co-chairman Ro Khanna. Former US ambassador Rich Verma, Eric Garcetti, industrialist Vinod Khosla and many Indian-origin tech leaders participated in it. It became clear through the call that the Indian-American community is deeply concerned about India-US relations. Ro Khanna said, "I would not have called this call unless the matter was serious. We need to sound the alarm to save this relationship."
Former US ambassador Rich Verma said in the discussion that Trump's policies have caused serious damage to India-US relations in the last two months. He referred to President Bill Clinton's visit to India in 2000, when the US first separated its policies towards India and Pakistan. "That decision laid a strong foundation for trade, clean energy, defence and people-to-people ties," Verma said.
Many analysts believe that Trump's trade policies, such as raising import duties and ignoring diplomatic dialogue could alienate India from the US. If this attitude is not changed, the strategic partnership between the two countries could be severely affected.
