New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A sharp political debate has erupted in the United States over the ongoing conflict with Iran, with senior leaders from the Democratic Party strongly criticizing President Donald Trump and calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Senior Democratic members of the US Congress Foreign Affairs Committee issued a joint statement attacking the Trump administration’s strategy. They said that even after more than a month of conflict, there are no clear results, alleging that the war was launched without a concrete plan and has failed to achieve its stated objectives.

The leaders raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of the war, stating that it has neither impacted Iran’s nuclear program nor reduced its missile capabilities or alleged support for militant groups. They also noted that the conflict has not brought any relief to the Iranian public.

According to the lawmakers, the human and economic costs of the war have been extremely high. They claimed that 13 American soldiers have been killed and hundreds injured, while billions of dollars worth of military equipment has been destroyed. They also alleged that thousands of Iranian civilians have died in the conflict, including over 150 schoolgirls.

The Democrats further highlighted the global impact of the war, saying that supplies of essential commodities such as oil, fertilizers, and helium have been disrupted, contributing to rising tensions and economic strain worldwide.

They also accused the Trump administration of straining relations with traditional allies, leading several countries to step back from supporting the conflict. According to them, weakening alliances has hurt the United States’ global standing.

In conclusion, Democratic leaders urged the president to immediately initiate ceasefire talks with Iran and pursue a diplomatic solution, warning that failure to do so could prolong the conflict and increase its costs.
