U.S. Issues Strict Advisory: Do Not Travel to Iran Under Any Circumstances

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Tensions between the United States and Iran are on the rise again. In response to the worsening situation, the U.S. State Department has issued a strong travel advisory, explicitly urging American citizens not to travel to Iran under any circumstances.

In a post on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the U.S. Consular Affairs Office, the department warned: “U.S. citizens should not travel to Iran for any reason. American citizens — including dual U.S.-Iranian nationals — have been arbitrarily detained, abducted without warning, and falsely imprisoned in Iran. Some have been held for years on fabricated charges, subjected to mental torture, and even sentenced to death. Just holding a U.S. passport or having ties to America can be enough for Iranian authorities to arrest you.”

During a press briefing, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized that Iran does not recognize dual nationality and routinely denies consular access to U.S. detainees.

She added, “Although the recent bombings have stopped, that does not mean Iran is safe for travel.”

To spread awareness, Bruce announced the launch of a new multilingual website aimed at educating Americans about the risks of traveling to Iran. “We are launching a new website that provides travel advisories in several languages. Our message remains unchanged — do not travel to Iran, especially if you are of Iranian descent or hold dual citizenship,” she said. Bruce reiterated that the advisory is still fully in effect, highlighting ongoing threats and the severe legal risks Americans face in Iran.
