US warns Indian students: Visa revocation and deportation risk for breaking laws

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Relations between India and the United States have been strained for the past few months. Several decisions and statements by US President Donald Trump have increased tensions between the two countries. In this context, the US has issued a strong message to Indian students studying there. The US Embassy in India has clearly stated that violations of US laws can result in the cancellation of student visas and the individual being deported from the country.
In a statement posted on the social media platform "X," the US Embassy said that if a student violates the law or is arrested, their visa may be revoked. They could also be deported and denied future US visas. The Embassy clarified that a US visa is not a right, but a privilege, and therefore, it is essential to follow the rules.
The embassy periodically issues warnings regarding immigration and visa regulations. Recently, a stern public warning was issued to those entering the United States illegally, warning of severe criminal penalties for violating immigration laws. This warning comes amid the Trump administration's strict immigration policies.
The impact of tightened immigration rules is now visible in statistics. International student enrollment in the United States declined by approximately 17 percent last year. Applicants for H-1B visas, issued for skilled foreign workers, are also facing long waits.
