Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the United States from September 23 to 25 at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed the visit, with the two leaders expected to hold talks in Washington amid ongoing trade and diplomatic tensions.

According to reports, Xi’s aircraft will land at Joint Base Andrews, where Trump is expected to personally receive him. Such an airport welcome would be unusual for a visiting foreign leader, as US presidents generally host formal welcomes at the White House. The leaders had earlier met in Beijing in May and discussed efforts to improve bilateral relations.

The summit comes amid tensions over the US administration’s new sanctions framework targeting Russian energy purchases, which could affect major buyers including China and India. China has opposed unilateral sanctions, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun saying Beijing supports normal trade based on equality and mutual benefit and rejects external interference in its economic relations.
