BJP’s ‘Badlaav’ rally sparks new political momentum in Punjab
The BJP’s “Badlaav” rally held on March 14 in Killi Chahalan, Moga, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the centre marked a significant moment in Punjab politics. More than just a public gathering, it was seen as a strong show of the party’s growing presence in the state. Once considered politically sidelined after the farmers’ protests and its split with the Shiromani Akali Dal, the BJP used the rally to signal its resurgence, especially in the crucial Malwa region.
Organising such a large-scale event in Malwa—now largely seen as a stronghold of the Aam Aadmi Party—highlighted the BJP’s intent to play a decisive role in the 2027 Assembly elections. The participation of people from diverse backgrounds and the presence of leaders from different sections indicated that the party is expanding its base and strategy in Punjab. The rally also triggered reactions from opposition parties, suggesting a shift in the state’s political dynamics and intensifying competition.
During the rally, Amit Shah announced that the BJP would contest the 2027 elections independently and aim to form the government. He said the party would eliminate the drug problem in Punjab within two years of coming to power and made it clear that the BJP would no longer play a secondary role in state politics. Shah highlighted the party’s past decisions, including key national policies, and expressed confidence in forming the next government, citing growing voter support.
He also targeted rival parties over issues like drug abuse and governance, while emphasizing unity between communities. Shah underlined the government’s initiatives related to Sikh heritage and farmers, and reiterated a firm stance against religious conversions, promising strict action if the BJP comes to power.
The rally’s success reflects the BJP’s expanding support base in Punjab over recent years. Party leaders, including state president Sunil Jakhar and others, played a key role in organizing the event. While the rally showcased growing public interest in the BJP, sustaining this momentum and trust will be a major challenge for the party going forward.
