Pune/Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): In yet another close call, Air India’s flight AI2470 narrowly escaped a mishap after reportedly striking a bird on Thursday. The incident came to light after the aircraft safely landed in Pune.

According to an official statement, Air India confirmed that flight AI2470, scheduled to fly from Pune to Delhi on June 20, was cancelled due to a bird strike. The issue was discovered only after the inbound flight landed safely in Pune. The aircraft has been grounded for inspection, and alternative arrangements are being made to fly the affected passengers to Delhi.

Earlier, Air India announced plans to reduce services on 16 international routes between June 21 and July 15. Three international routes will see complete cancellations during this period. The airline stated that the decision aims to restore scheduling stability and reduce passenger inconvenience in the wake of the tragic June 12 plane crash in Ahmedabad.

On Friday, Air India cancelled a total of eight flights — four international and four domestic — citing maintenance and operational issues. In an official statement, the airline said, “We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. Our ground teams are arranging alternate flights to ensure passengers reach their destinations at the earliest.” Air India also assured full refunds and free rescheduling options to the affected passengers.
