Amritsar Enforces Precautionary Blackout Amid Security Concerns: Residents Advised to Participate
Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): In light of recent drone sightings near the India-Pakistan border, the Amritsar administration has announced a precautionary blackout starting at 8:00 PM today. Residents are urged to switch off all external lights, including verandah, garden, and gate lights, as part of a voluntary blackout initiative. Indoors, minimal lighting is advised, with a recommendation to keep lights shielded from escaping outside. In the event of a red alert, all internal lights should be turned off, and individuals should stay away from windows.
The administration emphasizes that while a centrally imposed power shutdown is not desired, non-compliance during a red alert may necessitate such measures. Additionally, schools in Amritsar will operate tomorrow from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. These actions are part of ongoing efforts to enhance security preparedness in the region. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities during this period. The DC has issued a notice regarding the same:
Dear all
1. We will switch off the street lights at 8 pm today
2. Please follow a voluntary blackout by switching off all your external lights at this time- eg verandah, garden lights, lights at the gate / door, etc.
3. Once indoor please use minimal light or ensure light does not escape outside the house. Howver incase there is a red alert, then please switch off these internal lights as well and stay away from windows.
4. We don't want to centrally shut power, however, incase there is a red alert and we find there is no compliance, we will be forced to centrally shut power.
5. Schools will open tomorrow from 10.30 AM to 2.30 PM.
Thanks and regards
DC Amritsar
