Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): In a significant move, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has transferred the investigation of the assault case involving Colonel Bath from Patiala to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The decision came after Colonel Bath’s family approached the High Court, expressing dissatisfaction with the progress made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) previously assigned to the case. The family alleged that the SIT was not conducting a thorough probe and urged the court to either replace the team or hand over the inquiry to the CBI. Taking note of the family’s concerns, the High Court ruled in favor of transferring the case to the CBI for a more independent and detailed investigation. Further updates on the case are awaited.

What is the Patiala Colonel Bath assault case?

In March 2025, a shocking incident took place in Patiala where serving Army officer Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath and his son were brutally assaulted by Punjab Police personnel over a parking dispute at a roadside dhaba. Several officers, including four of inspector rank, allegedly thrashed the Colonel in the middle of the road, breaking his arm, while his son also sustained serious injuries. The entire assault was caught on CCTV, but despite the evidence, the local police delayed registering an FIR, sparking outrage and raising serious questions about the conduct of the officers involved.
