US conducts strike in Tehran, Trump claims 'many Iranian leaders eliminated'
US launches major operation in Tehran, with Trump stating that several high-ranking Iranian officials were taken out; footage of the strike has been shared widely.
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The ongoing Iran-US conflict in the Middle East is becoming increasingly serious. US President Donald Trump has claimed that several Iranian military leaders have been "eliminated" in a major attack in Tehran. He also shared video footage of the attack, although he did not provide any specific information about the locations or details of the attack.
Earlier, Trump had warned that if Iran did not reach an agreement, it would face "destruction." Iran responded strongly to this statement, saying that if the US and Israel escalated tensions, the entire region would become "hell." On Saturday, Iran launched another round of missile attacks toward Gulf countries, Iraq, and Israel. Several missiles were intercepted, but reports of damage from their debris have emerged.
Meanwhile, a US F-15 fighter jet was reportedly shot down over southern Iran. According to US media, one pilot was rescued safely, while another crew member remains missing and a search is ongoing. Iranian authorities have appealed to citizens for information leading to the capture of the missing US soldier "alive," and have offered a reward. A US A-10 Warthog aircraft involved in the search and rescue operation was also attacked, though its pilot is reported to be safe.
It's worth noting that last week, Trump announced a 10-day halt to attacks on energy installations to give Iran a chance to reach a deal. The conflict began on February 28th with joint US and Israeli strikes. Thousands of people have died in this war so far. Global oil prices are seeing a sharp surge, vital sea routes have been affected, and fuel has become more expensive. Threats and attacks targeting civilian targets by both sides have also raised concerns about potential war crimes.
