New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan around 10 a.m., where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President JP Nadda, and several other ministers from the central government.

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who recently resigned from the post citing health reasons, also attended the ceremony. This marked his first public appearance since stepping down. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was also present, along with several opposition leaders. However, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi could not attend the event due to his ongoing visit to Gujarat.

Before taking the oath, CP Radhakrishnan resigned from his post as the Governor of Maharashtra on Thursday, following his victory in the Vice Presidential election held on September 9. The President's office confirmed that the additional charge of Maharashtra Governor has been temporarily assigned to Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat.

In the Vice Presidential election, CP Radhakrishnan defeated the opposition candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. His predecessor, Jagdeep Dhankhar, had resigned on July 21, citing health concerns.
