Stock Market Scam: Businessman Loses Rs 35 Lakh, Rs 3.5 Lakh Frozen in Account
Noida (The Uttam Hindu): A major cyber fraud case has come to light in the name of stock market in Noida, in which Sector-49 resident businessman Prashant Choubey has been duped of Rs 35 lakh. The fraudsters duped him by luring him with 100 percent profit in the name of investing in IPO (Initial Public Offering). Police has registered a case in this connection and so far an amount of about three and a half lakh rupees has been frozen.
The victim businessman was first added to a group on WhatsApp. The admin of this group was claiming to be an IPO expert and was doubling the profit on investment. Initially, due to doubt, the businessman invested a small amount, on which he also got profit. This strengthened his trust and he downloaded a special app suggested by the fraudsters on his phone. The amount invested on the app started appearing to increase rapidly, which was actually a virtual graph and had nothing to do with reality.
In this way, Prashant Chaubey gradually transferred a total of 35 lakh 25 thousand rupees in several installments. When he tried to withdraw the money, the fraudsters started pressuring him to invest more money. On refusing, he was removed from the group and the contact was also terminated. After this, Prashant lodged a complaint on the cyber crime portal. Investigation has revealed that this amount has been transferred to various bank accounts located in different states of the country.
It is suspected that some accounts have been rented. Also, information is being collected about the accounts in which the money has gone. At present, the police have frozen an amount of Rs 3.5 lakh and efforts are on to trace the remaining amount. The victim also says that the fraudsters also gave him training related to investment for several days and told him that the company in which he is investing is registered with SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India). But this claim was also found to be fake during investigation. Police officials say that in view of the seriousness of the case, a special team of the cyber cell is engaged in the investigation and the arrest of the accused is possible soon.
