Copenhagen (The Uttam Hindu): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen. He conveyed personal greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated India's commitment to further deepen the Green Strategic Partnership between India-Denmark.

Jaishankar wrote on Twitter, “Thank you PM Mette Frederiksen for the warm welcome I received in Copenhagen. I conveyed my best wishes to her on behalf of PM Narendra Modi. Thank you for Denmark’s support and solidarity in fighting terrorism. Appreciate PM Frederiksen’s guidance in taking forward our Green Strategic Partnership and further expanding our cooperation.”

The meeting took place on Tuesday evening. The meeting was very important ahead of the third India-Nordic summit in Norway later this year. PM Modi was earlier expected to attend this summit, but due to a change in schedule, Jaishankar has come to represent India. During the meeting, Jaishankar and Frederiksen also discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern, including anti-terrorism cooperation.

Denmark has consistently supported India's stance on global terrorism, which has become even more important following recent South Asian security developments. A unique diplomatic arrangement between India and Denmark, launched in 2020, is the Green Strategic Partnership, India's only partnership globally.

This has become the bedrock of the relationship between the two countries, with a focus on sustainable development, renewable energy, water management and climate action. In April this year, PM Modi had a phone conversation with PM Frederiksen, in which the two leaders emphasised on the growing scope of bilateral cooperation.

"Glad to speak to PM Mette Frederiksen today. We reaffirmed our strong support for the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and emphasised on enhancing cooperation in diverse sectors for the benefit of the people," PM Modi wrote on Twitter after the conversation.
