Mexican Navy Ship Crashes into Brooklyn Bridge, 19 Injured — 4 Critical

New York/Mexico City (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident occurred in New York City on Saturday when the Mexican Navy training ship 'Cuauhtemoc' collided with the Brooklyn Bridge. A total of 19 people were injured in this accident, out of which the condition of 4 is said to be critical.

According to eyewitnesses, the upper part of the ship, on which the Mexican flag was flying, collided with the bridge and got damaged. Immediately after the accident, the ship became unbalanced and started moving towards the shore, causing chaos at the spot.


According to information provided by the Mexican Navy, there were a total of 277 people on board the ship at the time of the accident. The ship had left Mexico's Acapulco port on April 6 for a training mission.


The New York Fire Department and other emergency services immediately reached the spot. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The Mayor of New York has confirmed that the situation is now under control and no major damage is expected at the moment.


A video of this incident is rapidly going viral on social media, in which it can be seen that the ship collides with the bridge and rubs against it and then tilts to one side and moves in the direction of the flow. People are seen running away from the shore in fear.


The Mexican Navy issued a statement on Twitter (formerly Twitter) saying that an investigation into the accident has been launched and the condition of all crew members is being reviewed. The statement said, "We are committed to the safety of our personnel and transparent operations. This accident is unfortunate, but we will ensure that the cadets receive the best training." At present, the ship's voyage has been stopped and plans are being made to repair the damaged parts.
