Panic mid-air: Mumbai–Kolkata flight makes emergency landing after engine failure, 170 passengers safe
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata had to make an emergency landing late Sunday night due to a technical snag. After one of the plane's engines developed problems, the pilot declared a full emergency and the plane landed safely at Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at around 11:38 pm. Flight number SG670 was carrying over 170 passengers. Airport officials have confirmed that all passengers and crew members are safe.
170 passengers are left breathless as Mumbai-Kolkata flight engine fails; emergency landing made: According to information, the plane had departed from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport for Kolkata and was about to reach its destination when the pilot noticed engine trouble. The airport authorities were immediately informed. Upon receiving the information, the airport authority declared an emergency and cleared the runway for an emergency landing.
The airport's emergency response team, including fire engines, ambulances, and medical staff, was deployed to the runway. The plane landed safely at 11:27 p.m., and the emergency was lifted at 11:38 p.m.
Officials said all passengers and crew are safe. Previously, in September, a SpiceJet flight from Pune to Delhi had to return shortly after takeoff due to a technical problem. However, an emergency landing was not made in that case.
Following the recent crash of an Air India flight in Ahmedabad, several aircraft have been experiencing technical problems, raising concerns about air safety. Following the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the engine failure.
