Subedar Major Martyred in Pak Firing Laid to Rest in Himachal, Was to Retire in 2 Months
Kangra (The Uttam Hindu): Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, who was martyred in unprovoked Pakistani shelling in Jammu and Kashmir’s Krishna Ghati sector, was given a tearful farewell with full military honors in his native village in Kangra district on Sunday. The veteran soldier, serving with the 25 Punjab Regiment, was just two months away from retirement. His mortal remains were brought home amid chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Shaheed Amar Rahe", with thousands from nearby villages joining the final procession.
The attack, which took place along the Line of Control, is part of a recent surge in ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces. The shell that took Kumar’s life landed near his forward post, fatally wounding him despite immediate medical attention. A guard of honor was presented as the national flag-draped coffin was lowered, with family members in deep mourning. Kumar is survived by his wife, two children, and elderly parents. His father is also a retired soldier.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended his condolences and said the state stands firmly with the martyr’s family. The government has assured all possible assistance to the bereaved household. The martyrdom of Subedar Major Pawan Kumar has once again highlighted the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers guarding the nation’s borders under constant threat.
