(The Uttam Hindu): After changing the rules of Tatkal ticket booking, the Indian Railways has now introduced changes in Geneal quota ticket booking system. As per the news system, waiting list tickets will be limited to 25% more than the normal quota of the train at the originating station and intermediate stations. This new system  has become effective from Monday.

How it Works

For example, if a train has 20 general quota seats in sleeper class, only 5-6 waiting list tickets will be issued. Similarly, for third AC with 10 general quota seats, only 3-4 waiting list tickets will be issued, and for second AC with 8 general quota seats, only 2-3 waiting list tickets will be issued.

Impact on Passengers

This change aims to provide relief to millions of passengers across the country by reducing the problems caused by excess waiting list tickets. Passengers can opt for tickets up to a specific station if there is no availability till their destination station, but this may result in higher fares.

Applicability

The new system will be applicable for both general quota and Tatkal quota tickets, but not for concessional tickets and warrants. It will be effective at all stations, including roadside and small stations.

Relief for Passengers

The Railways hopes that this change will bring relief to passengers and reduce the "no room" situation in trains, especially during peak travel seasons.
