Aadhaar Linking Now Mandatory for Tatkal Train Ticket Bookings Starting July 1

Update: 2025-06-13 15:19 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The new rule for booking train tickets on Tatkal is coming into effect from July 1. Indian Railways is going to make such a change, after which you will have to link your Aadhar card on the IRCTC website or app. Without doing this, you will not be able to make a booking. Also, from July 15, while booking Tatkal tickets online, you will have to provide OTP linked to the Aadhar number. If you book tickets yourself through the IRCTC website or app, then link Aadhar to your account from now onwards.

According to the information given on the IRCTC website, the user who makes booking by linking his Aadhaar with IRCTC account can book 24 tickets in a month. Without linking Aadhaar, only 12 tickets can be booked in a month. The advantage of this is that you can book more tickets monthly. Many people go on trips with their families. Linking Aadhaar card is beneficial when booking for more people from one account. Anyway, this is becoming a rule from July 1, so if you have not linked Aadhaar with IRCTC user ID, then follow this process.

To link Aadhaar, first login to IRCTC account with your username and password. After logging in, go to the Profile or My Account section. Here you will get the option to link Aadhaar. After this click on “Add Aadhaar” or “Link Aadhaar”. Enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number and submit. As soon as you submit the Aadhaar number, an OTP will be sent from UIDAI to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. An OTP will come on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. Complete the verification by entering it. If your Aadhaar number and OTP are correct, then your KYC process will be successful and Aadhaar will be linked to IRCTC account. You can check your KYC status by going to the 'My Profile' section.
