'We Made a Grave Mistake': Bilawal Bhutto Admits to Pakistan’s Terror Ties
Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): Former Pakistan Foreign Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has made a big confession. He has admitted that Pakistan has a history of supporting extremism and terrorism. Bilawal has said this while confirming the earlier statement of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in which Asif had admitted that Pakistan supported and trained terrorism for decades.
In a conversation with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, "As far as the Defense Minister is concerned... I don't think it is a secret that Pakistan has a history. As a result, we have suffered. A wave of extremism has emerged in our country, as a result of which we have suffered. But now we have also learned some lessons. We have also done some internal reforms to deal with this problem." He stressed that it is true that Pakistan has a history of extremism, which cannot be denied.
Bilawal's statement comes after Defence Minister Khawaja Asif's confession, in which Asif said that Pakistan had raised and trained terrorists for the US and Western countries, especially Britain, for nearly three decades. Asif admitted this when he was asked whether he believed that Pakistan had a history of supporting, training and funding terrorism.
Bilawal further said in his conversation that the history of Pakistan is now a thing of the past and today's decisions are not influenced by it. He called it Pakistan's "unfortunate past". He also said that now Pakistan has taken steps to deal with terrorism and its effect is also visible. It is worth noting that earlier Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had indirectly threatened India regarding the Indus Water Treaty and said that if water does not flow in the Indus river then we will shed blood. His comment was criticized a lot.
