Motihari (The Uttam Hindu): Bihar Police continues its crackdown on criminals, and in a major encounter in East Champaran district, two wanted criminals were killed. One police constable also lost his life during the operation.

According to police, the incident took place in Ramdih village under Chakia police station limits, where a gunfight broke out between the police and the accused. The deceased criminals have been identified as Kundan Thakur and Priyanshu Dubey.

A police official said that information was received that Kundan Thakur was hiding at a friend’s house along with his associates and weapons. Acting on this input, a police team reached the location, but the accused opened fire on them.

During the exchange of fire, a constable was critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. In retaliation, the police fired back in self-defense, injuring Kundan Thakur, a resident of Chakia, and his associate Priyanshu Kumar from Sahebganj in Muzaffarpur. Both were taken to the hospital, where they were declared dead.

Police also arrested two individuals, Ujjwal Kumar and Sant Kumar Tiwari, from the spot. A large cache of weapons was recovered from the scene, including one carbine, two pistols, two country-made firearms, five live cartridges and 17 empty shells.

Officials said Kundan Thakur had a criminal record, with several cases registered against him at Chakia, Rajepur and Nagar police stations. A day before the encounter, a threat call had been received on the phone of Chakia police station’s additional SHO Gaurav Kumar from a Nepal number, where the caller identified himself as Kundan Thakur.
