Elon Musk surpasses Pakistan and Sri Lanka's GDP, becomes richest person in history with $852 billion net worth

WASHINGTON (The Uttam Hindu) : Elon Musk, owner of the social media platform X and head of Tesla and SpaceX, has created a new economic history. According to Forbes, Elon Musk has now become not only the richest person in the world, but also in history. His total wealth is estimated at more than $850 billion, which translates to approximately ₹77 lakh crore in Indian currency.

According to the report, Musk's wealth surged following the merger of his space company SpaceX and artificial intelligence startup xAI. His net worth increased by $84 billion (approximately Rs 7 lakh crore) in just one day.

Elon Musk's net worth is now said to be greater than the entire GDP of countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. According to the Forbes Billionaires Index, Musk's current net worth is approximately $852 billion, which is more than the combined wealth of India's top 40 richest people.

Musk has consistently set new records over the past few months. In October 2025, he became the world's first person to be worth $500 billion. Subsequently, in December, his wealth surpassed $600 billion due to a sharp increase in SpaceX's valuation. On December 19th, following a court ruling regarding Tesla stock options, Musk surpassed the $700 billion mark. In January 2026, he became the richest person in history.

Far ahead of other wealthy individuals, Larry Page, the world's second-richest person and Google co-founder, has a net worth of approximately $281 billion. Musk has surpassed him by approximately $578 billion. Experts believe that given the pace at which Elon Musk's wealth is growing, he could soon become the world's first trillionaire, or a person with a net worth of $1 trillion.
