Triumph's 350cc bikes hit Indian market, prices plummet post-GST
Models like Speed T4, Speed 400, and Scrambler 400 are now more affordable, starting at ₹1.95 lakh, ₹2.31 lakh, and ₹2.59 lakh, respectively
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): If you've been dreaming of buying a powerful and premium motorcycle for a long time, then there's some great news for you. To avoid hefty taxes, British two-wheeler manufacturer Triumph has made a significant move. The company has downsized the engines of its popular 400cc series, directly benefiting customers. With the reduction in taxes, the prices of these premium motorcycles have dropped so significantly that they're now within the budget of even the average person.
New GST rules have changed the market situation
The central government's new tax slabs have created a stir in the automobile market. Two-wheelers with engine capacity over 350 cc now face a 40 percent GST. With such a high tax rate, it was nearly impossible for companies to keep premium bikes within customers' budgets. Turning this challenge into an opportunity, Triumph upgraded its 400 series engine to 350 cc. Bikes under 350 cc fall in the 18 percent tax slab, saving a significant amount of tax, and the direct benefit to customers is lower prices.
After a cut of lakhs, these are the new prices of the models
Following this brilliant strategy by Triumph, showrooms are expected to see a huge influx of customers. According to Delhi ex-showroom prices, the Speed T4 model is now available for just ₹195,000. The price of the Speed 400 has been reduced to ₹231,890, and the Scrambler 400 to ₹259,241. Additionally, the Thruxton 400 can be purchased for ₹265,538, and the Scrambler 400 XC for ₹289,534. This significant price drop has made these models the most attractive and powerful options in the mid-size segment.
Slight difference in power, but no loss in performance
To reduce the engine to 350 cc, the company has made some technical changes to its bore and stroke. However, this has resulted in a slight decrease in power and torque output. The new engine in the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X now produces 36.50 bhp of power and 32 Nm of torque, which is approximately 3 bhp less than before. The Speed T4 engine generates 29 bhp of power. In terms of speed, the Speed 400 used to take 7.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, but now takes 8.1 seconds. However, the company claims that riders will not notice any difference in top speed or driving experience in urban traffic.
The new Tracker 400 also debuted
Amidst this major change, the company has also launched an all-new model called the "Tracker 400" in the Indian market. Unlike the global market, it has been launched in India on the same 350cc platform, but like the Thruxton 400, it comes with the most powerful tuning. Its engine produces 40 hp of power and 32 Nm of torque. Other key components like the frame, brakes, and suspension remain unchanged, ensuring strong riding stability. This new and affordable strategy from Triumph could be a big hit in a price-sensitive market like India.
