New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In today's digital age, Aadhaar has become our "digital identity" for everything from banking to subsidy schemes. But if your name, address, or date of birth are incorrect, it could cause significant problems.

To address this shortcoming, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new 'e-Aadhaar' app. This app eliminates long queues at Aadhaar service centers, the hassle of visiting centers, and the paperwork involved. Now, with just a few clicks, you can update your data accurately and securely.

All these tasks can be done from home

UIDAI has stated that the main objective of this new app is to make it easier to update demographic information related to Aadhaar cards, such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number. Until now, such updates often required visits to Aadhaar service centers, where long lines formed and considerable time wasted. This new app will eliminate that hassle.

Equipped with Face ID and QR codes, this app will work easily and securely from home, incorporating several modern technologies. The app will first scan your face upon login to ensure it's the actual person using the app. When you need to share your identity, you can scan the QR code created in the app. You can also choose whether other information (such as address or date of birth) other than your name and photo will be visible to the other party. You can lock your biometrics through the app itself, preventing unauthorized use. The app features features that allow Aadhaar verification by scanning a QR code even without an internet connection, making it very useful in areas with poor network coverage.

What are the terms and limitations?

To use this app, your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar. To make corrections, you will need to digitally upload the required documents (such as passport, voter ID, electricity bill, etc.). However, UIDAI has clarified that if someone needs to update their biometrics (fingerprint or iris), they will likely have to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, as before. The launch and availability date of the app has not been finalized yet, but it is expected to be released to users by the end of 2025.
