32 fake Universities operating across the country, UGC releases list; Delhi tops the chart
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Students and parents planning for higher education should remain alert. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 32 fake universities operating across India in the name of providing higher education. The commission has clearly stated that degrees issued by these illegal institutions are not valid for government or private jobs and cannot be used for further studies.
The latest data has raised serious concerns about monitoring in the higher education sector. Within just two years, the number of such unrecognized institutions has increased from 20 to 32. Delhi has the highest number, with 12 fake universities found operating in the national capital. The list also includes institutions from Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh. Similar cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The UGC has issued a separate alert regarding “Global Human Peace University” operating in Bengaluru. According to education experts, such institutions attract students by offering low fees, quick degrees and easy academic processes. In many cases, they falsely claim affiliation with reputed foreign universities. However, these institutions often lack qualified faculty members and basic infrastructure.
To protect students from financial loss and damage to their careers, the UGC has advised applicants to verify the recognition status of any college or university before taking admission. Students should check the official UGC website to confirm the credibility and approval status of the institution before submitting forms or paying fees. Awareness and proper verification can prevent long-term consequences.
