Al-Falah University chairman Javed Ahmed Siddiqui arrested, Crime Branch takes major action in the case
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Delhi Police Crime Branch has carried out a major operation and arrested Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, Chairman of Al-Falah University. Siddiqui has been accused of forgery and serious irregularities in the functioning of the university. A senior police official said on Wednesday that the arrest was made on the basis of two FIRs registered by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
According to police sources, the case came under scrutiny after investigations were expanded following a blast near the Red Fort. As the probe widened, several instances of alleged fraud and administrative irregularities were detected in the operations of Al-Falah University. Based on these findings, the Crime Branch registered a case and began a detailed investigation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) was already probing the matter separately. After examining the evidence gathered by the ED and police agencies, Siddiqui was taken into custody and later formally arrested after sustained questioning.
Following his arrest, Javed Ahmed Siddiqui was produced before a local court. Police argued that custodial interrogation was necessary due to the seriousness of the allegations. Accepting the plea, the court sent Siddiqui to four days of police remand. Officials said that during this period, financial transactions of the university and other aspects linked to the alleged fraud will be thoroughly examined.
Al-Falah University has previously been in the spotlight after a joint operation by Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir Police led to the arrest of a Kashmiri doctor named Muzammil Shakeel, who was working as a faculty member at the university. At that time, security agencies recovered around 360 kilograms of explosives and a large cache of weapons from his possession. Since the exposure of this terror-related link, the university’s activities have remained under close watch by investigating agencies.
