New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a landmark moment for India’s power distribution sector, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has launched ‘Ojhaswini’, its first all-women led Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Sub-Division Office at Saini Enclave, Karkardooma, East Delhi. Named Ojhaswini—symbolising strength, vitality and radiance—the initiative marks a decisive break from traditional stereotypes by placing women engineers at the helm of one of the most demanding, field-intensive functions in the electricity distribution value chain.

The historic inauguration was held in the presence of Mr. Amal Sinha, Group CEO, BSES, Mr. Brajesh Kumar, COO, BYPL, along with the senior leadership team and women representatives from local Resident Welfare Associations. More than a ceremonial launch, Ojhaswini represents a transformational shift in frontline power operations—rooted in merit, preparedness and professional excellence—reaffirming the organisation’s belief that leadership capability is defined by competence, not gender.

This is the first women-led power distribution sub-division office in Delhi and among the first of its kind in India. The Saini Enclave Sub-Division is a core operational unit, entrusted with end-to-end responsibility for last-mile reliable power supply, including field maintenance, outage management, safety oversight, loss reduction, regulatory compliance and direct engagement with consumers and civic agencies. For the first time, full operational accountability for these mission-critical functions rests entirely with women engineers, selected through a structured and transparent process.

The office has been developed as a model O&M facility, reflecting best-in-class infrastructure, process discipline and organisational pride. Conceived as a practical and scalable blueprint, Ojhaswini is designed not as a one-time milestone but as a replicable operating model for future expansion.

With a total team strength of 21 employees, the sub-division serves over 25,000 consumers across a diverse mix of residential, commercial and institutional areas, including Anand Vihar, Saini Enclave and Karkardooma Court. To prepare women engineers for the rigours of field leadership, BYPL has instituted a focused capability-building framework covering technical, safety, operational and leadership dimensions, supported by sustained mentoring and training.

Building on the success of Ojhaswini, the BSES plans to progressively expand women-led operational offices through a phased, capability-led approach. Ojhaswini stands as a powerful declaration of intent—illuminating a new, inclusive pathway for the future of India’s power distribution sector.
