Delhi chokes again: Air quality slips to ‘very poor’, breathing becomes difficult
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The air quality in the national capital Delhi continues to deteriorate. A layer of haze remained in the sky on Tuesday morning as well. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded in the "very poor" category on Tuesday morning. This situation persists in approximately 17 areas of Delhi.
According to CPCB data, ITO and its surrounding areas recorded an AQI of 347, which falls in the "very poor" category. Anand Vihar and its surrounding areas recorded an AQI of 392. The Kartavya Path area recorded an AQI of 278, also falling in the "poor" category. However, the situation worsened in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area, where the air quality index crossed 400.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has warned officials that any laxity in pollution management will not be tolerated. "Pollution control in Delhi is our top priority," she said.
On Monday, she reviewed pollution control measures being taken in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed all departments to deploy additional pollution control teams and take strict action against industrial units and polluting vehicles. She clearly stated that the goal is not just to reduce pollution, but to prevent its increase completely. Strict action will be taken against any officer found negligent at any level.
The Chief Minister also stated that special monitoring teams are being formed to completely stop garbage burning. Violators will be fined, and strict action will be taken as per the law. He added that joint efforts are ongoing to improve air quality by coordinating with neighboring states.
