Dense fog disrupts flights due to low visibility; Delhi Airport issues advisory

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): As winter tightens its grip over north India, dense fog has enveloped the skies, severely disrupting air traffic across several cities, including Delhi. On Thursday, Delhi Airport informed passengers that flight schedules are being impacted due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog.

In a post on social media platform X, Delhi Airport said that flight operations are currently being conducted under CAT-III conditions, which may lead to delays or temporary disruptions. The airport authority stated it is working closely with all stakeholders to minimise inconvenience and advised passengers to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines. An apology was also issued for any inconvenience caused.

Several flights have been cancelled or diverted due to fog. Jaipur-bound flight 6E 7413 and Delhi-bound flight 6E 2113 were cancelled, along with flight AI 1879 to Delhi. Delhi-bound flight 6E 6448 was diverted, while Jaipur-bound flight 6G 7414 was also diverted to Delhi.

The airport department has urged passengers to regularly check flight updates through official websites or mobile apps. Airport teams remain on standby to assist travellers at every step. Authorities expressed hope that weather conditions will improve soon, allowing smoother operations, and thanked passengers for their patience and understanding.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of dense morning fog in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Visibility has dropped sharply in many parts of north India, leading to delays and cancellations at Chandigarh Airport as well.

At Delhi’s IGI Airport, hundreds of flights have been affected, with a ripple effect seen in cities such as Chandigarh, Lucknow, and Amritsar. Passengers have been advised to allow extra travel time while heading to the airport and to keep checking real-time updates. Other airlines have also released similar advisories. Road traffic has been impacted due to fog, and travellers have been asked to exercise caution.
