Pet dog sparks chaos at wedding, families clash; chairs thrown and alliance called off
Fatehpur (The Uttam Hindu): A wedding celebration in Khaga area of Fatehpur turned into a high-voltage drama after a dispute over a pet dog led to a violent clash between the bride’s and groom’s families. The incident took place on February 19 when a wedding procession arrived from Prayagraj to a guest house in Khaga.
According to reports, the bride’s family allegedly left their pet dog roaming freely during the ceremony. Tensions flared when the dog reportedly started barking at and biting some members of the wedding procession. The groom’s side objected and asked that the dog be tied up. What began as an argument quickly escalated into a heated confrontation, with chairs reportedly thrown inside the guest house. Around eight members of the wedding party, including women, were injured in the scuffle and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Dispute worsens after dog driven away
The groom’s sister stated that the couple had been in a relationship for several years. They had already solemnised their marriage in a temple and completed court formalities before both families agreed to hold a formal ceremony. However, matters worsened when members of the groom’s side allegedly tried to drive the dog away with sticks after it continued barking and biting. The bride’s family reportedly objected strongly, leading to further escalation.
Following the violent altercation, the groom reportedly refused to accept the bride, and the marriage alliance was called off on the spot.
Police investigation underway
The dispute that began at the wedding venue eventually reached the Khaga police station. Both families have submitted written complaints against each other, demanding strict action. Police have initiated an investigation and called members of both sides for questioning. Meanwhile, members of the bride’s family have declined to comment publicly on the incident. Authorities are currently examining the facts and will take appropriate legal action based on the findings.
