Shocking revelation as terror groups allegedly brainwash children through online gaming platforms
Jaipur (The Uttam Hindu): Children in the digital age are facing a serious and hidden threat. A recent report by the Rajasthan Cyber Cell has raised concerns among parents, stating that certain terror-linked groups are allegedly using online gaming platforms to target children aged 11 to 17. Popular platforms such as Roblox, Minecraft and Discord are reportedly being misused to approach minors. According to the findings, suspects first build friendly connections with children and then gradually attempt to influence their thinking through private interactions.
Three stage funnel strategy used to target minors
Reports from central agencies indicate that sandbox-style games with open chat features pose higher risks. The alleged method involves a planned three-stage “funnel strategy.” In the first stage, contact is made through gaming chat rooms. In the second stage, children are shifted to private chats and given small online tasks. In the final stage, larger assignments are introduced under the guise of gaming missions, which may lead to deeper influence. Authorities say many minors may not realize the seriousness of such interactions.
Police warn parents to remain alert
The police have urged parents to stay vigilant. Rajasthan Cyber Cell DIG Vikas Kumar stated that parents must closely monitor their children’s screen activity, including the apps they use and the content they access. Regular supervision of digital behavior is considered essential to prevent minors from falling victim to online manipulation or criminal networks.
Concerns raised over children’s safety
Political and social concerns have also surfaced. BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya expressed worry that children are increasingly drawn to violent or interactive online games. He noted that reports of suspicious online transactions and risky digital behavior are rising. He emphasized that at an age meant for education and development, excessive exposure to harmful digital content can negatively affect children’s mental growth.
Screen time control and communication suggested as key safeguards
Officials have advised that controlling screen time is one of the most effective preventive steps. Continuous monitoring of gaming applications and maintaining open communication with children can help families detect unusual behavior early. Experts recommend that parents create a supportive environment so children feel comfortable discussing their online experiences.
