Mathura (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating road accident occurred early Saturday morning in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, claiming the lives of six people and leaving nine others injured. The incident took place near Milestone 88 on the Yamuna Expressway under the Surir police station area.

According to initial information, a bus travelling from Delhi to Kanpur stopped on the expressway when some passengers got down to relieve themselves. Instead of halting the bus at the designated green zone, the driver parked it along the roadside. During this time, a high-speed container coming from behind first rammed into the bus and then lost control, crushing passengers who were standing on the roadside.

In the accident, Sonu (Auraiya), Devesh (Basti), Aslam (Kannauj), Santosh (Delhi) and two others lost their lives. The identities of two deceased are still being verified. All bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and initiated rescue and relief operations. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Due to the accident, traffic on the expressway was disrupted for some time but was later restored.

Preliminary investigation suggests that parking the bus at an unsafe location was a major cause of the accident, as vehicles are allowed to stop only in marked green zones on the expressway. Police are currently searching for the container driver, who fled the scene, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives. He directed officials to speed up relief efforts, ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, and conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased.
