Ultimatum issued over attack on Parliament in Delhi, Khalistan and Afzal Guru mentioned
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India’s capital Delhi has once again been shaken by bomb threats. On Monday morning, around 10 prominent schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email. The concern is far more serious this time, as the threat was not limited to schools. The email also mentioned a planned attack on the Parliament building, triggering high alert among security agencies. The message referred to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and used extremist references, prompting immediate action by law enforcement authorities.
‘Delhi will become Khalistan’ message and a chilling date
The emails sent to the schools used highly provocative and objectionable language. The message reportedly stated, “Delhi will become Khalistan. Punjab is Khalistan. In the memory of Afzal Guru.”
The sender also specified a date and time for the alleged attack, claiming that an explosion would take place in Parliament on February 13 at 1:11 pm. This date is considered extremely sensitive, as the 2001 Parliament terror attack also took place on the 13th of December. Additionally, February 9 marks the date when Afzal Guru was executed in 2013, suggesting that the dates were deliberately chosen to spread fear and panic.
Police and bomb squad deployed, schools evacuated
As soon as information about the threatening emails was received, Delhi Police and emergency agencies swung into action. Officials from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) confirmed that emergency calls were received from multiple schools in the morning. Fire tenders and Bomb Disposal Squad teams were immediately dispatched to the locations.
As a precautionary measure, all 10 schools that received threats were evacuated, and thorough search operations were launched across the campuses. As of the time of reporting, no suspicious object or explosive material has been found at any of the schools.
Panic among parents, security tightened across the capital
The bomb threat reports early in the morning caused panic among parents, who rushed to ensure the safety of their children. In response to the threats, security has been significantly tightened across Delhi, especially around sensitive locations.
Police are currently working to trace the source and IP address of the emails to identify those responsible. It is noteworthy that cases of hoax bomb threats to schools have increased in recent months in Delhi and other parts of the country, putting immense pressure on security agencies.
