Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92, bringing an end to an era in Indian music. Her demise was confirmed by her son Anand Bhosle along with Maharashtra Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar and doctors at Breach Candy Hospital. The news has left the film industry and millions of fans across the country in deep shock and grief.
According to family members she had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment in the hospital. Doctors stated that she passed away due to multi organ failure. Her last rites will be performed with full state honours at Shivaji Park where people will be able to pay their final respects before the funeral.
Asha Bhosle’s contribution to Indian music remains unmatched with a career spanning more than eight decades. She recorded over twelve thousand songs and created timeless classics such as Piya Tu Ab To Aaja Dum Maro Dum Yeh Mera Dil Chura Liya Hai Tumne In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke and Dil Cheez Kya Hai. She was honoured with prestigious awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award the Padma Vibhushan and multiple National and Filmfare Awards.
