New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received interim relief from the Delhi High Court in a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. The court granted him interim bail till 18 March after directing him to deposit ₹1.5 crore in the complainant’s bank account.

Following the court’s order, Rajpal Yadav transferred the required amount before 3 pm and informed the court. Only after confirmation of the payment was interim bail approved. This relief is significant for the actor as his niece’s wedding is scheduled on 19 February in Shahjahanpur, allowing him to attend the family function without legal obstruction.

Passport surrender ordered, next hearing on 18 March

While granting interim bail, the High Court imposed strict conditions. The actor has been directed to immediately surrender his passport. The court has fixed the next hearing for 18 March, during which Rajpal Yadav must appear either in person or through video conferencing.

Film failure led to debt, actor had earlier gone to jail

The case dates back to 2010 when Rajpal Yadav took a loan of around ₹5 crore from a Delhi-based firm, Murli Projects Private Limited, to produce his film Ata Pata Lapaata. The film failed at the box office, leaving the actor unable to repay the amount. Several cheques issued to the lender were dishonoured, and with accumulated interest, the liability rose to ₹9 crore.

Due to non-payment and violation of court orders, a magistrate court convicted him under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and sent him to Tihar Jail in April 2018. In the same case, he was recently ordered to surrender again on 6 February 2026. However, by depositing ₹1.5 crore, the actor has secured temporary relief for now.
