Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch are on high alert following the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu. In view of the firing allegedly linked to the Bishnoi gang, security around Rohit Shetty has been significantly increased. Earlier, only two police personnel were deployed at his residence, but additional security forces have now been posted.

Extra police personnel have been stationed near Rohit Shetty’s house as well as for his personal protection. Meanwhile, a major revelation has emerged during the Crime Branch investigation. Police found that the shooter used an advanced country-made weapon during the firing. Five bullets of 7.62 mm calibre were fired. Investigators are examining whether the ammunition was 7.62×51 NATO or 7.62×39 mm, which are commonly used in rifles and machine guns and are known for their high speed and deep impact.

The investigation revealed that after the firing, the shooter fled on a scooty for some distance. He later asked an auto-rickshaw driver to take him to Kalyan, but the driver refused. Another auto driver then dropped him near Vile Parle railway station. As local train services were not operational at the time, the shooter attempted to leave Mumbai using private transport. Statements of both auto drivers have been recorded by the police.

According to the Crime Branch, the arrested accused Siddharth Yenpure and Swapnil Sakat, who delivered a scooty from Pune to Mumbai, were paid a total of ₹10,000. This amount was given by the alleged mastermind Shubham Lonkar to accused Samarth Pomaji. Pomaji paid the two accused after they returned to Pune following the scooty delivery. Police are now investigating how much money the Bishnoi gang paid in total for the entire operation. Bank transactions of the accused are also under scrutiny.

Police also questioned Rohit Shetty about whether he had received any threats from any gang or individual. He clearly stated that he had not received any threat in any form, including messages, calls, voice notes, or emails. Investigators have also found clues suggesting that some other members of the Bishnoi gang were present with the shooter during the firing. Efforts are underway to identify them.

Officials said that the main shooter has been identified, and multiple teams have been formed to arrest him. So far, statements of more than a dozen people have been recorded in connection with the case.
