Sub-Inspector killed in Hisar: Haryana police officer beaten to death outside home; 5 arrested
Hisar(The Uttam Hindu): A shocking incident has emerged from Haryana's Hisar district, raising serious questions about the state's law and order situation. Here, protesting against a riot proved so costly for a Haryana Police sub-inspector (SI), that he was brutally beaten to death by miscreants with bricks and sticks.
This sensational incident occurred at 12 o'clock late Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as 57-year-old Ramesh Kumar, who had been posted in the police department for a long time and was due to retire in January next year. According to information, Sub-Inspector Ramesh Kumar had been posted at the ADGP office for the past 10 years and lived with his family in Dhani Shyamlal's Gali No. 3 in Hisar. On Thursday night around 10:30, some youths were creating a ruckus and abusing in his street.
Hearing the commotion, SI Ramesh emerged from his home and told the youths to remain peaceful and stop the riot. While the youths left at that time, they harbored a grudge. It is alleged that approximately an hour later, the same miscreants returned in cars and two-wheelers. They arrived in front of SI Ramesh's home and began abusing him again. When Ramesh tried to stop them again, they attacked him with sticks and bricks, causing life-threatening injuries.
Ramesh Kumar fell to the ground, seriously injured in the attack. By the time family members rushed to the scene after hearing the screams, the attackers had managed to escape. Upon receiving information about the incident, local police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The body has been sent to Hisar Civil Hospital for a postmortem.
Rajbala, in-charge of the New Sabzi Mandi police post, said that the family members' statements have been recorded and action will be taken based on that. She added that a search has been launched for the accused, and various police teams are conducting raids to arrest them. She assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
This heinous murder has raised concerns about the safety of the general public in Haryana. Questions are being raised: when even police officers in the state are openly unsafe, how can the general public be protected? It's worth noting that Haryana's new DGP, OP Singh, had repeatedly stated upon assuming office that "criminals are in trouble in Haryana," but the murder of his own officer has now called these claims into question.
