Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, has issued a clarification rejecting recent media reports that claimed the DEXA scan machine in the Radiology Department was non-functional. The hospital administration termed these reports as factually incorrect and misleading.

In an official statement, the IGMC Medical Superintendent said the DEXA scan machine is fully operational and working efficiently. He added that unverified information had caused unnecessary confusion among patients and the general public, besides affecting the reputation of the state’s premier healthcare institution.

To support its claim, the hospital stated that the Radiology Department successfully conducted eight DEXA scans on December 17, 2025. These procedures are properly recorded in official duty registers and documents, which can be verified at any time. Hospital authorities expressed concern over the publication of incorrect information without proper verification from the concerned department or administration.

Officials emphasized that such misleading reports not only undermine public trust but also create undue anxiety among patients who rely on IGMC for specialized diagnostic services. DEXA scans are a crucial diagnostic tool used to assess bone mineral density and detect osteoporosis, and misinformation regarding their availability can lead to unnecessary inconvenience for patients.

The Medical Superintendent formally urged media organizations to focus on factual accuracy and issue corrections at the earliest. IGMC reiterated its commitment to providing uninterrupted and reliable healthcare services and appealed to media outlets to verify facts with hospital authorities before publishing reports related to patient care and medical infrastructure.
