Massive Fire Destroys Entire Village in Kullu: 12 Houses, 2 Temples, and 6 Cattle Sheds Reduced to Ashes
Kullu (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating fire broke out in the Tirthan Valley of Kullu district’s Banjar subdivision on Tuesday afternoon. The blaze erupted in the remote Jhaniyar village and spread rapidly, engulfing the entire settlement. Within hours, around 10 to 12 residential houses, two temples, six cattle sheds, and several fodder storage huts were completely reduced to ashes.
Fire Brigade Could Not Reach Due to Lack of Road Connectivity
As soon as the fire broke out, panic spread across the village, and cries for help echoed through the valley. Villagers, along with people from nearby areas, risked their lives trying to control the flames, but the intensity of the fire made it impossible to contain.
The biggest hurdle in the rescue efforts was the village’s remote location — it is several kilometers away from the nearest motorable road. Due to the lack of road connectivity, fire brigade vehicles could not reach the site, which led to extensive damage.
Villagers Left Homeless Amid Cold Weather, Living in Tents
The incident occurred just as winter is setting in, making the situation even more tragic. Dozens of villagers have been left homeless in freezing temperatures and are now forced to live in temporary tents, struggling to rebuild their lives.
The district administration has initiated emergency relief measures and started assessing the extent of the damage. Officials have also appealed to locals and nearby communities to assist in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
It is worth noting that fire incidents in hilly areas tend to increase during the winter months. Often, fires lit for warmth or cooking accidentally spread and destroy entire homes.
