Temporary teachers to be recruited in CBSE schools of Himachal, education department drafts proposal; appointments for five years
Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): The Himachal Pradesh government is set to take a major step to address the shortage of teachers in government schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Following an announcement by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state education department has begun preparing a proposal to recruit temporary teachers for CBSE schools. These appointments will be made for a fixed period of five years.
Existing teachers will be selected for CBSE schools strictly through an examination-based process to ensure that qualified and subject-specialist educators are appointed. In addition to this, temporary teachers will also be recruited to meet immediate academic requirements. Department officials are currently finalising the eligibility criteria, educational qualifications, experience requirements, honorarium, and service conditions for these temporary posts.
At the government level, it is being acknowledged that the academic structure and evaluation system of CBSE schools differ from those of the state board. Therefore, a separate and dedicated recruitment process is considered necessary. Even though the appointments will be temporary, emphasis is being placed on maintaining a transparent and competitive selection procedure.
Sources said that once the proposal is finalised, it will be sent to the state cabinet for approval. After receiving clearance, the recruitment process will be initiated without delay. The government aims to ensure that CBSE schools do not face subject-wise teacher shortages. The five-year temporary appointment plan is expected to provide immediate relief to schools while also giving the government sufficient time to frame a long-term permanent policy.
