33 Years of Babri Demolition… Ayodhya and Several Cities Turn into Fortresses; Security Tightened Across UP
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, security has been tightened across Ayodhya, Mathura and the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. Major districts including Varanasi, Lucknow, Meerut, Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur and Prayagraj have also been placed under heightened vigilance. It was on 6 December 1992 that the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished by kar sevaks associated with the Ram Temple movement.
Security in Ayodhya has been strengthened since 4 December, with continuous surveillance underway. After the Supreme Court verdict in favour of the Ram Temple and the recent completion of the temple at the disputed site—along with the installation of the religious flag—security agencies are on special alert today. Ayodhya SSP Gaurav Grover said that all police stations have been instructed to remain on high alert. Additional monitoring has been in place since 4 December, and security will be further tightened today. He assured that normal citizens will not face any inconvenience.
Following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the police administration in Ayodhya and the Avadh region—especially Pratapgarh—remains on alert due to the possibility of events related to Shaurya Diwas/Black Day on 6 December. Senior officials, including IPS officer Prashant Raj, have inspected sensitive areas and issued instructions to the police force.
The SSP said that hotels, roadside eateries, guest houses and dharamshalas are being checked continuously. Checking of vehicles entering and exiting city limits has been increased. Foot patrolling in Ayodhya has also been intensified, and police personnel have been instructed to remain alert on the Ram Temple route and other sensitive locations. In Mathura, the Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Idgah complex is being closely monitored using drones due to its sensitivity.
Security has also been raised following the recent car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort. Since some Hindu organisations observe 6 December as Shaurya Diwas and several Muslim groups mark it as Black Day, the date holds significant importance from a law-and-order perspective.
