AI will multiply human capabilities, PM Modi tells India AI Impact Summit
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On Thursday, the fourth day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that AI is a transformative moment in human history and will multiply human potential. Speaking in his keynote address at the summit, PM Modi said that AI is like a major technological shift in the world. The only difference is that new technologies are not taking decades to emerge, as in the past, but rather, this change is happening much faster.
He further stated that today's journey from machine learning to learning machines is both rapid, deep, and pervasive. We must maintain a broad vision and shoulder an equally broad responsibility. Along with the current generation, we must also be concerned about the form of AI we will leave behind for future generations. Therefore, the real question today is not what AI can do in the future; it is what we do with artificial intelligence in the present.
The core objective of this summit is to transform AI from machine-centric to human-centric, sensitive and responsive. The PM said that India's vision of AI is clearly reflected in the summit's theme, "Sarvajana Hitaya - Sarvajana Sukhaya." This is our benchmark. Humans should not become mere data points for AI, nor should they be reduced to mere raw material. Therefore, AI must be democratized. It must be made a medium for inclusion and empowerment in the Global South.
PM Modi further said that at present many big companies consider AI as a strategic asset and keep the code secret, but India believes that AI can be used for the welfare of the world only when its code is made public.
